How to Propose Legislation
Who can propose legislation?
Legislation ideas don't just come from our elected officials or businesses and organizations operating within the Commonwealth, the most important legislation comes from you!
What is needed?
If you'd like to propose a legislative idea to Delegate Adams, you will need to understand the problem and how it affects the Commonwealth as a whole, or large population of Virginia, and have an understanding of what the "fix" would be.
Although not necessary, it's helpful to have a basic understanding of how our bills become laws in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the process of how these bills move during the General Assembly session. Most bills are killed in subcommittee, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about these issues.
Delegate Adams reviews all legislative ideas and inquires on any additional information if needed. If the proposal is an idea needing to be explored through legislation, Delegate Adams will work with the Department of Legislative Services (DLS) to draft the bill.
