General Assembly Committees
During Session (which can last anywhere from 45 to 60 days depending on the year), an average of 3,000 bills may be presented for review. In order to sort through the proposed legislation, our General Assembly divides and conquers based on the topic the legislation addresses. Delegates meet in the Committees assigned to them by the Speaker to review, debate, and vote on bills presented during Session. If a bill does not pass through the Committee it will not become a law.
